Outpatient COVID Therapies – What Works?

 

If you’re diagnosed with COVID (but not sick enough to be admitted to the hospital and are otherwise totally healthy) – is there ANYTHING you can do?

I get this Q all the time from my patients – and the truth is – yes! In fact, there are remedies that will help you with your symptoms, and that may reduce your risk of complications and may help reduce your length of illness. See the list below!

Here’s what I tell my patients who I diagnose with COVID, but are well enough to go home (of course, always check with your own doctor, especially before taking any medications or supplements!)

– Every 1-2 hours, stand up and walk around

– Every 1-2 hours, do breathing exercises: pursed-lip breathing (inhale deeply, then slowly exhale through pursed lips like you’re blowing out a candle), or deep diaphragmatic breathing

– when you lay down, try laying down on your side or stomach, or at a minimum laying at an elevated recline (instead of flat)

– Vitamin C 500mg twice a day

– Vitamin D 2,000 IU / day (Check with your doctor to have your Vitamin D level tested- because many people need more Vitamin D, but you want to watch this level)

– Zinc 75mg once a day (always take with food or it will upset your stomach)

– Pepcid 20 mg daily

– Aspirin – 1 baby aspirin daily (unless your doctor has ever told you not to take aspirin)

ISOLATION instructions:

– you will need to isolate yourself from others (including those living in the same house with you) for 10 days since onset of symptoms or when your test was taken, AND until your symptoms are improving AND you are not needing to take medications (such as Acetaminophen or anti-inflammatory medications) for fever for 72 hours.
